At Odlo everything began with training pants

As early as 1946 the Odlo brand was founded in Oslo by its name Odd Roar Lofterød (short: OdLo). Initially, the young company's business was limited to the production of warming training pants for speed skaters. At the same time, the concept of functional sportswear was established.

But as so often, it takes children to change the world. In 1963 the son of Odd Roar Lofterød was a member of the Norwegian Speed Skating Junior Team. On this occasion, Odd developed the first elastic and functional training pants from the synthetic Helanca fiber. The product was a complete success and led to the fact that only a short time later the first high-functional suit for speed skaters and cross-country skiers came onto the market.

The final breakthrough was achieved by Odlo in 1964. This year, the Olympic Winter Games took place in Innsbruck and the entire Norwegian ski team was wearing the innovative suits of Odlo. Eight years later in Sapporo there should already be 22 nations. In 1986 the global expansion and the transfer of the company's headquarters to Switzerland were completed.

Three layers, one task

Odlo was known for its highly functional sportswear. From sports underwear to a warm synthetic fiber jacket, there is almost nothing at Odlo that does not exist. Whether for endurance, mountain or winter sports, the brand is represented wherever breathing and functional clothing is required.

Odlo is the inventor of the three-layer principle. This refers to the purposeful combination of three layers of cohesion, which together ensure ideal moisture control, temperature control as well as protection from the weather.

- The Baselayer, the clothing layer, which sits directly on the skin, ensures that the resulting moisture is transported away from the body. Thus the functionality of the Baselayer decides on the functionality of the entire clothing.
- The midlayer is considered as a link between the upper and lower garment layers. This second layer ensures above all the necessary insulation against cold.
- The Outerlayer takes over a protection function. In addition to the transport of moisture, the emphasis here is on protection against wind and weather.

This principle has always been an important component of the collections and can be seen as the cornerstone of all other technologies from Odlo. In addition, extremely functional materials were used very early. In addition to a fast moisture transport, these also favored the freedom of movement and the physical climate of the athletes. Whether it is cross-country skiing, trail runners, alpine skiers or ski tours, Odlo ensures the perfect function in all situations.
